Objectives of this Role

The Staff Accountant will report to the VP, Director of Accounting and Financial Reporting and will be responsible for performing highly specialized work in maintaining accounting records of the Bank and maintain accurate, timely and meaningful production of financial and regulatory reports.

 

Essential Functions

  • Maintain the integrity of the Bank’s general ledger.
  • Understanding of accounting rules (i.e., generally accepted accounting principles) and bank regulations and be able to maintain compliance with both.
  • Accounting for the investment securities portfolio, as well as daily pledging related to public funds and repurchase agreements.
  • Daily settlement of cash position for the Bank and reconcilement of Due From’s.
  • Verify that all adjustments for month-end accruals for revenue and expenses, prepaid asset amortization and other closing entries are properly recorded to maintain accurate financial records in accordance with GAAP.
  • Assist with the month end closing process; review financial results for accuracy and completeness.
  • Reconcile assigned general ledger accounts according to appropriate timeframes and requirements.
  • Investigate general ledger reconciling items and take the necessary actions to ensure they are cleared timely.
  • Understand the process and act as a back-up to the accounts payable associate.
  • Assist in the annual escheatment process.
  • Complete the quarterly Regulation F review.
  • Maintain stale dated official check letters/documentation to customers.
  • Maintain the QwickRate CD system and all correspondence between the bank/deposit operations and the customer
  • Develop procedures that ensure ongoing adherence to all internal and external control requirements related to areas of responsibility.
  • Prepare Annual Footnote Schedules as assigned.
  • Assist with providing a response to periodic surveys as requested by regulatory authorities.
  • Comply with all audit and regulatory requirements.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • One or more years accounting experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP accounting issues as they relate to the banking industry.
  • Experience working with accounting and reporting systems such as Jack Henry.
  • Ability to analyze, research, present, and coordinate.
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and time management skills.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Strong dedication to accuracy and efficiency.
  • Ability to work extended hours as required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
