The Finance & Accounting Intern will gain hands-on experience in both financial planning & analysis (FP&A) and accounting functions within a community banking environment. This internship offers exposure to real-world financial operations including month-end close, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting processes. Ideal for a student interested in a career in finance or accounting, this role provides valuable insight into how internal financial operations support strategic decision-making at the executive level.

Core Responsibilities

  • Assist with mid-year forecasting efforts by analyzing key financial line items, entering data into forecasting software, and summarizing variances between actual and projected results
  • Contribute to rolling forward the Annual Report, helping update materials and maintain consistency in reporting
  • Participate in budget preparation activities for the upcoming fiscal year, supporting report enhancements for executive and board visibility
  • Attend team meetings and collaborate with professionals across FP&A and financial reporting functions

Desired Qualifications

  • Open to undergraduate students of all levels, with a preference for those pursuing Finance, Accounting, or related majors

Learning Objectives & Outcomes

By the end of the internship, the student will:

  • Gain exposure to the core operations of a Finance and Accounting department within the banking industry
  • Understand the flow and structure of financial reporting, forecasting, and analysis
  • Participate in the strategic planning cycle, from mid-year forecasts to new-year budget setup
  • Develop practical skills in data interpretation, reconciliation, and executive-level communication

Primary Project: Cross-Cycle Financial Operations Support

Throughout the summer, the intern will contribute to several interconnected financial cycles from supporting month-end close and mid-year forecasts to preparing for the next year’s budget cycle. This immersive experience will strengthen their understanding of how a bank’s financial health is monitored, managed, and communicated.
