Department: Loan Operations 
Position Title: Loan Operations Intern 
Program Duration: 10 Weeks (June–August) 
Location: Primarily On-Site | St. Louis, MO | Some flexibility for remote work may be available 

Position Overview 

The Loan Operations Intern will gain hands-on exposure to the full lifecycle of loan processing from initial documentation through to loan payoff. This role is ideal for a student interested in banking operations, business process improvement, or financial services. Interns will support daily tasks and special projects that enhance their knowledge of loan systems, compliance, and operational efficiency while building their leadership, analytical, and teamwork skills. 

Core Responsibilities 

  • Learn and support key steps in the loan operations cycle, including documentation, processing, booking, servicing, and payoff
  • Assist with data entry and report preparation, supporting team efficiency and loan tracking accuracy
  • Collaborate with team members to understand and improve internal loan-related workflows and checklists
  • Participate in team meetings and department initiatives, contributing to a culture of continuous improvement
  • Work on assigned operational projects with guidance from leadership, with opportunities to take ownership of task execution and follow-through 

Desired Qualifications 

  • 3rd year undergraduate student or above, majoring in Business, Finance, or a related discipline
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and a strong foundation in critical thinking and problem-solving
  • Interest in banking operations, process improvement, or data accuracy
  • Strong attention to detail, reliability, and ability to work collaboratively on cross-functional projects 

Learning Objectives & Outcomes 

By the end of the internship, the student will: 

  • Understand the end-to-end loan process within a community bank, including compliance and servicing practices
  • Gain exposure to the tools, systems, and documentation standards used in loan operations
  • Build confidence in managing tasks and projects that contribute to team success
  • Develop a sense of leadership, ownership, and accountability in a real-world banking environment
  • Strengthen communication and collaboration skills while learning how loan operations connects to broader business functions 

Primary Project: Loan Lifecycle & 2026 Readiness Initiatives 

Interns will focus on learning the key stages of the loan lifecycle while supporting priority projects that prepare the team for 2026. These projects may include data cleanup efforts, documentation updates, and workflow refinements. Interns will be given a leadership role on at least one specific task or initiative and will present outcomes to department leaders at the conclusion of their project.

  • Weekly Development Sessions (goal setting, communication, leadership, etc.)
  • Cross-functional Group Project culminating in a final executive presentation
  • Networking events, team-building activities, and bank-wide experiences
  • Mentorship from employees across the organization, including the Credit team
